Woooo! We're now on I-70, and have seen our first sign directing us to Indy. We're making awesome time. Colin just asked me which road to take... Just to confirm that in fact, we -did- want the one that says "Indianapolis". TomTom lady says 164 miles to our next turn, which I think may be within the city limits.

We've seen, and utterly failed in our attempts to photograph, several signs in Ohio saying we're within the "corporate limits" of an Ohio city. Apparently Thalmann and his buddies are already exerting their dominion over America's heartland. Surely the Nonames will have something to say about that!

Just crossed over one of the bridges of Madison county. Cops EVERYWHERE in Ohio. Good thing we're in a vehicle that is pretty much incapable of speeding. Another Ohio oddity - there are different speed limits for vehicles over a certain weight - 65 for cars, 55 for vehicles over 4 tons. Glad I passed on the last Twinkie.

We just passed "Plain City" and "Urbana". Colin observes that the kinds of city names you see in comics DO exist, just only in the midwest.

Just crossed the border into Pennsylvania, and our 500-mile point. The rent-a-van needed a quick pit stop in Port Jervis, NY, where we obtained food and poured $75 worth of petroleum-inspired liquid into our tank, at the first full-service gas station I've ever seen in my life. Some incredible views here, especially for me; Colin says it's pretty common for this part of the country.

Yes PA has very scenic views , keep your eyes on the road however , or you will end up in one
of our scenic potholes!  Tongue

If you think those names are cool there's always a lot more fun ones.

Intercourse , yes it's a real city  Tongue

I'm sure there are lots more to have fun with but sadly not enough time to look them up or room to post them  Smiley

If you see signs that say Peru and Neptune, don't worry, those are cities in Indiana as well.

I've just informed Vista, much to its chagrin, that it cannot download 10 important updates over my unreliable air card and install them as we rattle about on 270 west.

If your laptop bursts into flame, you will know why. Make sure to get a picture of that as well.

We just passed a sign for Xenia; we thought we might be very lost. Under 100 miles to Indy!

Pulling out of a Kentaco Hut, and what will likely be our last pre-Indy stop. The tiny bathroom, which had "Hens" on the women's door and "Roosters" on the mens', was poorly designed to say the least. As I washed my hands in the sink, the hand dryer's motion detector went off on the opposite wall and sandblasted my backside. I tried to take a picture, but failed in that endeavor.

Foods were good, and we rang the silly brass bell to so indicate to the staff before departing. Still on I70, with 90 miles to go. The van is being honked at by impatient truckers, but we are doing our thing and hoping none of them have shotguns.

Hey guys,

Hope you'll be having a great time at Gen Con. I bumped into a picture of your booth, and decided to share it here.

Cheers,

I found this on wargamer.com

Convention Coverage: GenCon 2008 Day 1
Get ready for some serious gaming...and costumes.

Published 14 AUG 2008

...
So What’s New?

I then spend some time just getting a feel for the convention.  The vendor hall has been laid out in a reasonably logical manner.  Although there are exceptions, generally electronic vendors are in one section, board games in another, clothing and sword vendors in their own area, etc.  It’s not perfect but it is good enough that it makes sense.

My first stop is to visit Matt Holden of Darkened Sky.  He’s working on recoding the first collectable card game ever put on the web, Chron X. He and his team have purchased the IP rights to the game and for most of the last year have been updating the game from DirectX 4 to the latest version.  The game is also being converted to Flash, which means that players can pull it up on any platform, even an iPhone or a Wii.  The interesting thing is the game will be released free.  A for-pay premium subscription will be available that will offer some cool bells and whistles such as IM notification when your turn is ready.  However, unlike other free/premium games, the premium game won’t give subscribers any gameplay advantages.  It is expected to launch in the next three to four weeks.  Readers can find more info at www.chronx.com.

My next stop is to chat with some folks at Turbine to catch up on the latest updates to Dungeons & Dragons Online...
